Japanese rhododendron is one of the most valuable and most decorative types of rhododendrons. Deciduous shrub up to 2 m high, strongly branched. The leaves are thin, oblong-lanceolate, up to 10 cm long, light green. In autumn they turn bright orange-red. The flowers are fragrant, bell-shaped, up to 8 cm in diameter, 6-12 in racemes. They bloom before the appearance of leaves or simultaneously with them. The color of the flowers is striking in the width of the spectrum: from golden yellow to salmon, pale pink, and sometimes brick red!
